Time to celebrate: Campusfestival and Campusfest

The h_da rocks. Okay, that's nothing new for you. But what you probably didn't know yet: In June and July, the Darmstadt and Dieburg campuses will be rocking again. On 15 June, a Thursday, you’re invited to the Campusfestival in Darmstadt starting at 4 pm. The Urban Socks (indierock), Amistat (singer-songwriter), Goldroger (hip-hop) and The Busters (ska) will perform on the stage next to the refectory. Food trucks and drink stands will also cover a variety of culinary tastes. The festival ends at 10 pm with the last encore. We look forward to seeing you there!

Different campus, similar setting: A good month later, on Friday 14 July, the graduation party "Absolvia" will be happening on the Dieburg media campus. It will once again culminate in a large Campusfest with music and delicious culinary delights. The bands have been asked to perform, an exhibition of works is in preparation - and you are cordially invited to attend! Up-to-date information will be available here soon.

“Bürgerpanel”: established, active and still DA

The ”Bürgerpanel” (civic panel) of the h_da has been capturing the perspectives of residents in Darmstadt and the surroundings on the topic of sustainable development since 2018. Until now, the civic panel surveys, in which more than 800 people regularly participate, were conducted as part of the System Innovation for Sustainable Development project (s:ne). At the end of 2022, s:ne and its sub-projects were successfully completed - and transferred as planned to the Innovation and Transformation Platform for Sustainable Development (itp:ne). In the spirit of this transfer concept and the interlinking of the h_da with the region, the civic panel will continue its work as part of itp:ne.

In the current survey, "Energy for Darmstadt: New Ways for Heating", opinions, preferences and behavioural patterns on the topics of heating and energy are still being collected until 10 April. The results, as well as the evaluations of all previous surveys, will be available on this page in a few weeks the results flow into the development and implementation. Interesting - even for ex- and exile-Heiners.

New Vice President: Prof. Dr. Matthias Vieth (Photo: h_da/Samira Schulz)

On 21 March, Prof. Dr. Matthias Vieth was elected by the h_da Senate as the new Vice President for Study, Teaching and Student Affairs. The 59-year-old has been Professor of Business Administration in the faculty of Economics since 2016. His first, three-year term begins on 1 October. Vieth succeeds Prof. Dr. Manfred Loch, who held the post from 2015 to 2022 and has since retired. Dr. Tanja Münch has been in charge of the Department of Study, Teaching and Student Affairs on an interim basis since then.

"I would like to continue to promote networked, interdisciplinary cooperation in teaching and learning," says Matthias Vieth. Students should also benefit from the fact that the h_da is part of the European University of Technology - and be able to study across borders even more easily in the future. "Finally, it is important to me that the h_da becomes even more attractive for people in their professional lives with offers such as our certificate courses." See the detailed announcement.

Alumni management under a new roof

Our Office for Alumni Management is moving to a new department - and you should hardly notice any change. Until now, your central point of contact was located in the Service Centre for Research and Transfer (SFT); since 1 April, it has become part of the department of Continuing Education and Dual Study Centre (WBDS). Strategic considerations are behind this structural change. We are gradually handing over the tasks to our colleagues in WBDS until the summer. Together we want to make the transition as seamless as possible. You can support us in this process by contacting the central contact address alumni@h-da.de with all your concerns in the coming weeks. You will still find all the important information for you on the Alumni Website. And we will introduce you to your new central contact persons in one of the next newsletters. So stay in touch with us - we will keep you connected.

People & Paths: Portrait of Hannah Schürr

The feeling of freedom in Surfers Paradise: Hannah Schürr in Australia, 2018 (Photo: private)

"People are too often guided by their fear, by thoughts like 'But what if...?’” Hannah Schürr observes. For herself, as her curriculum vitae shows, this only applies in very rare cases. In five intensive years of her professional life, the media graduate has already gathered a wealth of diverse experience. As a digital nomad, she combines her passions of writing and travelling. You can read where the 29-year-old has been and where she still wants to go in her portrait on the alumni website. It makes it very clear that she still has a long way to go.
