Wie kann der Bundespräsident junge Menschen kommunikativ besser erreichen? Um sich darüber auszutauschen und konkrete Ideen zu entwickeln, arbeitete das Bundespräsidialamt im zurückliegenden Semester mit Studierenden aus dem Studiengang Onlinekommunikation der h_da zusammen. Ergebnis waren vier konkrete Konzepte, die den Bundespräsidenten jeweils in unterschiedlicher Form mit jungen Menschen in Kontakt bringen. Die Spannbreite reichte von neuen Diskussionsformaten über Kommunikation, die an Flash Mobs anlehnt, bis hin zur Konzeption von Podcasts, Storytelling und präsidialer TikTok-Kommunikation. Begleitet wurden die Studierenden vom PR-Experten Prof. Dr. Lars Rademacher und dem Politikberater und Lehrbeauftragten Erik Flügge. Beide stellen seit mehreren Semestern immer neue Verbindungen zwischen dem Mediencampus und der politischen Kommunikation her. Mit der erstmaligen Zusammenarbeit einer deutschen Hochschule mit dem Bundespräsidenten hat diese Strategie einen Höhepunkt erreicht. Einen ausführlicheren Artikel finden Sie auf der h_da-Website.

Am 29. April 2025 kam der neu gewählte Senat der h_da zur 200. Sitzung zusammen. Das Jubiläum wurde feierlich begangen: Der Senatssaal in der obersten Etage des h_da-Hochhauses war pünktlich zum „runden Geburtstag“ farblich umgestaltet und frisch möbliert worden. Im Anschluss an die offizielle Sitzung freuten sich die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer, den ehemaligen Präsidenten der h_da Herrn Prof. Dr. Christoph Wentzel als Ehrengast begrüßen zu dürfen. Professor Wentzel hatte im Jahr 2001 die erste Sitzung des Gremiums eröffnet.  Als dienstältestes Senatsmitglied blickte Prof. Dr. Bernhard May in einem kurzweiligen Vortrag zurück auf die Geschichte des Senats. Auch Professor Wentzel konnte die ein oder andere Anekdote beisteuern.

Natürlich stand aber auch ein straffes Arbeitsprogramm auf der Agenda: So wählten die 17 Mitglieder unter anderem einen neuen Vorstand. Wir gratulieren Prof. Dr. Andreas Heinemann (vordere Reihe, Mitte) zur Wiederwahl als Senatsvorsitzender! Seine Stellvertreter sind für die Beschäftigten Sven Glaubitz aus der Abteilung IT DuA (links neben Prof. Heinemann) und für die Studierenden Rebekka Carlow (rechts neben Prof. Heinemann) aus dem Fachbereich Media. Der Senatsvorstand wurde einstimmig im Amt bestätigt und freut sich über den großen Zuspruch. „Eine Hochschule unterliegt einem ständigen Wandel“, so Prof. Heinemann, „diesen Wandel zu gestalten und zu begleiten, darin liegt eines der Kernanliegen des Senats, seiner Ausschüsse und Kommissionen. Die Internationalisierung der Hochschule schreitet voran. Im Zuge der strategischen Ausrichtung der h_da als Teil der Europäischen Hochschulallianz EUT+ gewinnt die internationale und insbesondere europäische Zusammenarbeit an Bedeutung. Dies spiegelt sich auch in der Arbeit unserer Gremien wider, in die internationale Partner stärker eingebunden werden, um frische Impulse einzubringen und die Hochschule zukunftsfähig aufzustellen. Der h_da-Hochschulrat ist deshalb nun international besetzt: Mit Prof. Dr. Vasile Țopa, Rektor der Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, begrüßen wir einen Vertreter aus dem Kreis unserer EUT+-Partnerhochschulen als neues Mitglied. Die Sitzungen finden künftig auf Englisch statt. „Wir freuen uns auf die Zusammenarbeit, die uns neue Perspektiven auf unsere Arbeit und strategische Ausrichtung ermöglichen wird“, erklärt h_da-Präsident Prof. Dr. Arnd Steinmetz. Basierend auf der partizipativen Workshopreihe im letzten Jahr liegt nun ein abgestimmter Entwurf der Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie für unsere Hochschule vor. Wir laden Sie ein, vor der Finalisierung mehr über die anvisierten Ziele in Governance, Studium & Lehre, Forschung & Transfer sowie Betrieb zu erfahren und Feedback zu geben. Am 19. Mai von 9.00h bis 14.00h können sich alle h_da-Angehörigen im Café Glaskasten persönlich mit dem Team des Nachhaltigkeitsmanagements zum Strategieentwurf austauschen, am 21. Mai von 12.30h bis 14.30h Uhr gibt es einen weiteren Feedbacktermin online. Die Inhalte der Strategie werden als Poster ausgestellt. Der Campus Schöfferstraße soll grüner, einladender und nachhaltiger werden. Die Ergebnisse des dazu durchgeführten Freiflächenwettbewerbs mit integriertem Kunstwettbewerb sind noch bis zum 12. Mai 2025 im Foyer des Studierendenhauses zu sehen: Präsentiert werden die Siegerentwürfe sowie alle 15 eingereichten Wettbewerbsbeiträge. Zielsetzung war es, eine hohe Aufenthaltsqualität zu schaffen mit grünen Inseln, die zur Klimaanpassung beitragen, und ein Kunstkonzept zu entwickeln. Die Ausstellung vermittelt einen Eindruck davon, wie der Campus nun in den kommenden Jahren entsprechend umgestaltet wird. „Wir entwickeln unseren zentralen Campus zu einem grünen Campus weiter“, sagt Kanzler Dr. Thomas Bartnitzki. „Gezielt gestalteter Grünraum mit mehr Sitz- und Aufenthaltsmöglichkeiten wird unser Hochschulgelände noch stärker zu einem Ort machen, an dem man sich gerne aufhält oder zusammen lernt.“ Ausführliche Informationen finden sich auf unserer Website zur Campusentwicklung. 

Was haben die charismatische Spitze des Londoner 300-Meter-Hochhauses „The Shard“ und die Carbon-Seilnetzfassade des verhüllten Pariser Triumphbogens gemeinsam? Europäische Bauingenieurinnen haben daran einen wesentlichen Anteil. Von heute an (8. Mai 2025) präsentiert die Wanderausstellung „Queens of Structure“ auf dem h_da-Campus 18 Ingenieurinnen und ihre Vorzeigeprojekte. Die Vernissage mit Vorträgen und Umtrunk findet um 18 Uhr im Hörsaalgebäude C19 statt. Alle sind herzlich eingeladen. Die Ausstellung ist bis einschließlich Sonntag, 29. Juni, zu sehen. Am 14. und 15. Mai 2025 dreht sich an der h_da alles um Ihre Gesundheit. Unter dem Motto „Gesundheit (er)leben“ erwarten Sie am Campus Darmstadt und online spannende Vorträge, Workshops, Bewegungs- und Meditationsangebote, Mitmachaktionen sowie Informations- und Beratungsstände. Konkret geht es unter anderem um Ernährung, Bewegung, mentale Gesundheit, Suchtprävention, Vorsorge und Nachhaltigkeit. Alle Hochschulangehörigen sind herzlich willkommen! Weitere Informationen gibt es auf unserer Website. Mit den Gesundheitstagen startet auch die hochschulweite Kampagne „Beat the Heat“. Dabei geht es um die Frage, wie wir den Herausforderungen heißer werdender Sommer im Hochschulalltag begegnen, unser Wohlbefinden und unsere Gesundheit schützen können.

Das Netzwerk „net_sek“ für Mitarbeitende mit Sekretariatsaufgaben startet die nächste Entwicklungsstufe: Ab sofort gibt es für alle Mitglieder mehr Möglichkeiten, sich aktiv einzubringen – beispielsweise im Organisationsteam oder als eine von mehreren Sprecherinnen bzw. Sprechern. Diese werden künftig als offizielle Stimme des Netzwerks fungieren und net_sek bei offiziellen Anlässen vertreten. Die Organisation wird auf mehrere Schultern verteilt: Ein neues Team aus fünf bis sechs Personen übernimmt die Vorbereitung von Treffen, Moderation und Protokoll. Um gemeinsame Aktivitäten besser planbar zu machen, werden die Termine ein Jahr im Voraus festgelegt. Gleichzeitig werden die Treffen flexibler, i.e. als hybride Formate angeboten. Seit kurzem gibt es auch eine Intranet-Seite mit aktuellen Angeboten. Die Seite wird nach und nach weiter aufgebaut. Schauen Sie gerne vorbei!

How can the Federal President reach young people better in terms of communication? In order to discuss this and develop concrete ideas, the Office of the Federal President worked with students from the Online Communication programme at h_da last semester. The result was four specific concepts that bring the Federal President into contact with young people in different ways. The concepts ranged from new discussion formats and communication based on flash mobs to the conception of podcasts, storytelling and presidential TikTok communication. The students were accompanied by PR expert Prof Dr Lars Rademacher and political consultant and lecturer Erik Flügge. Both have been forging new links between the media campus and political communication for several semesters. This strategy has reached a high point with the first collaboration between a German university and the Federal President. You can find a more detailed article on the h_da website (in German).

On April 29, 2025, the newly elected Senate of h_da convened for its 200th meeting. The anniversary was celebrated in style: The Senate Hall on the top floor of the h_da high-rise had been redesigned in color and freshly furnished just in time for the “milestone birthday”. Following the official meeting, the participants were delighted to welcome the former President of h_da, Prof. Dr. Christoph Wentzel, as guest of honor. Professor Wentzel had opened the first meeting of the committee in 2001.  As the longest-serving member of the Senate, Prof. Dr. Bernhard May looked back on the history of the Senate in an entertaining presentation. Professor Wentzel was also able to contribute one or two anecdotes.

Of course, there was also a tight work program on the agenda: among other things, the 17 members elected a new Executive Board. We congratulate Prof. Dr. Andreas Heinemann (front row, middle) on his re-election as Chairman of the Senate. His deputies are Sven Glaubitz from the IT DuA department (to the left of Prof. Heinemann) for the employees and Rebekka Carlow (to the right of Prof. Heinemann) from the Media department for the students. The Senate Executive Board was unanimously confirmed in office and is delighted with the great support. “A university is subject to constant change,” says Prof. Heinemann, "shaping and accompanying this change is one of the core concerns of the Senate, its committees and commissions. In the Senate Executive Board, we would like to make our contribution to this and look forward to the tasks ahead of us". The internationalisation of the university is progressing. In the course of h_da's strategic orientation as part of the European University Alliance EUT+, international and especially European cooperation is gaining in importance. This is also reflected in the work of our committees, in which international partners are becoming more involved in order to bring in fresh impetus and make the university fit for the future. The h_da University Council therefore now has international members: With Prof Dr Vasile Țopa, Rector of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, we welcome a representative from the circle of our EUT+ partner universities as a new member. The meetings will now be held in English. ‘We are looking forward to the cooperation, which will give us new perspectives on our work and strategic orientation,’ explains h_da President Prof Dr Arnd Steinmetz. Based on last year's participatory workshop series, a coordinated draft of the sustainability strategy for our university is now available. We invite you to find out more about the goals envisaged in governance, studies & teaching, research & transfer and operations and to provide feedback before finalization. On May 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., all h_da members can discuss the draft strategy with the sustainability management team in person at Café Glaskasten, and on May 21 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. there will be another online feedback session. The Schöfferstraße campus is to become greener, more inviting and more sustainable. The results of the open space competition with integrated art competition are on display in the foyer of the student building until May 12, 2025: The winning designs and all 15 competition entries will be presented. The aim was to create a high quality of stay, green islands that contribute to climate adaptation and to develop an art concept. The exhibition gives an impression of how the campus will now be redesigned accordingly in the coming years. “We are developing our central campus into a green campus,” says Chancellor Dr. Thomas Bartnitzki. “Purposefully designed green spaces with more places to sit and relax will make our university campus even more of a place where people enjoy spending time or learning together.” Detailed information can be found on our campus development website (in German). 

What do the charismatic spire of London's 300-metre skyscraper ‘The Shard’ and the carbon cable mesh façade of the shrouded Arc de Triomphe in Paris have in common? European female civil engineers have played a major part in this. From today (8 May 2025), the travelling exhibition ‘Queens of Structure’ on the h_da campus will present 18 female engineers and their showcase projects. The vernissage with lectures and drinks will take place at 6 pm in the lecture hall building C19. Everyone is cordially invited. The exhibition can be seen up to and including Sunday 29 June. On May 14 and 15, 2025, everything at h_da will revolve around your health. Under the motto “Live and experience health”, you can expect exciting lectures, workshops, exercise and meditation offers, hands-on activities as well as information and advice stands on the Darmstadt campus and partly online. Specific topics include nutrition, exercise, mental health, addiction prevention, prevention and sustainability. All members of the university are welcome! All further information can be found on our website. The university-wide “Beat the Heat” campaign will also be launched at the same time as the Health Days. This is about the question of how we can meet the challenges of increasingly hot summers in everyday university life and protect our well-being and health.

The ‘net_sek’ network for employees with secretarial duties is entering the next stage of development: from now on, there will be more opportunities for all members to get actively involved - for example in the organisation team or as one of several spokespersons. In future, they will act as the official voice of the network and represent net_sek at official events. The organisation will be spread across several shoulders: A new team, consisting of five to six people, will take over the organisation of meetings, moderation and minutes. In order to make it easier to plan participation in joint activities, the dates will be set a year in advance. At the same time, meetings are made more flexible by offering them as hybrid formats.
